In early August
2004 we opened our doors to three Early Childhood classrooms, comprised
of 3-, 4-, and 5-year-old students. Due to extreme demand and local interest,
we added an additional Early Childhood classroom and saw last year's 5-year-olds
move into our first Elementary 1 classroom. Drummond Montessori will grow
one grade level each year until we service 3-year-olds through sixth grade.
Based on Montessori philosophy, each of our classrooms are multi-aged.
Each of our Early Childhood classrooms services 9 three-year-olds, 9 four-year-olds
and 9 five-year-olds for a total of 27 students with a full-time teacher
and a full-time teacher's assistant. Our Elementary 1 classrooms will
each service 9 first graders, 9 second graders and 9 third graders. Eventually
we will add our Elementary 2 classrooms, which will be comprised of 9
fourth-grade students, 9 fifth-grade and 9 sixth-grade students.
We are also pleased to offer a full-day program for all students. Our
day begins at 8:50 a.m. and ends at 2:45 p.m. All 3- and 4-year-old children
take a one-hour nap after the lunch period while our 5-year-olds receive
an hour of additional instruction with their teachers. For those families
who are interested, we offer after-school enrichment programs in both
academic and cultural studies. These programs run the full gamut from
homework help to yoga instruction. Some are offered for free, others are
tuition-based.
If you have questions about the program, feel free to call our main office
at 773 534-4120.
