Drummond Montessori is an urban school that has reinvented itself. Building on its longstanding tradition (1893) in the Bucktown neighborhood, Drummond School is based on a time-tested philosophy that is usually reserved for private school education. In 2004, with federal funding, Drummond became the first public Montessori School in the City of Chicago — the largest urban district in the United States to embrace this challenge.

We are proud of our faculty who show extraordinary dedication to our students and our innovative program. In order to be certified as Directors and Directresses, all Montessori faculty members must actively participate in and complete a 500-hour training program through a nationally accredited training center. We have been and continue to be fortunate to work closely with Midwest Montessori Teacher Training Center in Evanston, Illinois (www.mmttc.com) and Seton Institute in Clarendon Hills, Illinois (www.setonmontessori.org/institute) both of whom have been instrumental in our success.

In early August 2004 we opened our doors to three Early Childhood classrooms, comprised of 3, 4, and 5-year-old students. Due to high demand and local interest, our classrooms have grown from the original 3 to 12, accommodating students from pre-school to 8th grade. In June, 2015 our original three year old class graduated Eighth Grade Drummond Middle School.

Montessori's effectiveness is based on a multi-age setting, with each classroom comprised of 3 age cycles. Classrooms at the Early Childhood and Elementary 1 levels each have a full-time teacher and a full-time teacher's assistant.

We offer a full-day program for all students, beginning at the age of 3. Our day begins at 8:30 a.m. and ends at 3:30 p.m. All 3- and 4-year-old children have a rest period in the afternoon while our 5-year-olds receive additional instruction with their teachers. For those families who are interested, we offer After School programming until 6:00pm daily.

If you have questions about the program, feel free to call our main office at 773 534-4120.
